Guitar Lessons With a Clear Path Forward

Learning guitar isn’t about collecting random songs. It’s about building musicianship step by step on a foundation that supports everything you want to play in the future.

With over 40 years of playing experience and 30 years of teaching, I’ve intentionally developed a structured system that helps students progress steadily, confidently, and without the plateaus that stop so many players.

When you study with me online, you’re stepping into a guided path designed for real, lasting results.

A Structured Approach That Prevents Plateaus

Musicianship is like a building. It sits on a strong foundation of fundamentals, and it’s constructed floor by floor until you have the skills you need to sound like what you want to play.

You don’t need to learn everything. Nobody masters every style. Music is a language, and I guide you through the parts of that language you need in order to express your musical voice.

Many students plateau because they learn songs without building supporting skills. I design lessons so repertoire and technique reinforce each other. You’ll always know what you’re working on and why.

Custom-Created Professional Materials

I create my own teaching materials digitally, so lesson time is never wasted writing things out by hand. Students receive organized, professional materials designed specifically for learning.

Over the years I’ve built a large and constantly expanding catalog of:

• Song arrangements
• Accurate transcriptions
• Diagrams and fretboard maps
• Style exercises
• Reading materials
• Improvisation studies

Because I’m an expert transcriber, I can simplify songs at first so students succeed quickly, then gradually add complexity. Nothing is “too hard” when it’s approached in the right order.

You can view my growing song catalog here (coming soon).

Students Play, Not Watch

In my lessons, the student does most of the playing.

I demonstrate clearly, but you won’t sit there while I perform and you strum a few chords. You’ll actively play, receive immediate feedback, and build real skill.

An added benefit is confidence. Many students feel nervous at first about playing in front of someone. That quickly fades. Every week we review previous material, building accountability and comfort performing. Over time, students don’t just become better players. They become more confident musicians.

No commuting, no pressure — just real progress, from home.

Focused Curricula by Style

Rock, pop, blues, jazz, fingerstyle, and funk are my core specialties. Each style has its own vocabulary and feel. I’ve developed specific curricula so students don’t just imitate songs, they understand the style behind them.

For school jazz band students, I offer focused training in Freddie Green–style comping, swing feel, chart reading, and ensemble awareness. Many school programs don’t have time to teach this thoroughly. I do.

If you have a direction in mind, I know the path to get you there.

Serious Musicianship: Technique, Theory, and Expression

Technique alone isn’t enough. We also work on phrasing, taste, tone, and musical expression.

I teach sight reading, improvisation, ear training, and music theory in ways that support your goals. I studied music theory and composition at Shoreline Community College and the University of Washington, and I bring that knowledge into lessons in a practical, accessible way.

My goal isn’t just for you to play notes correctly. It’s for you to understand what you’re playing and eventually guide your own learning.

Online Lessons Designed for Real Progress

My online lessons are built to deliver the same structure, clarity, and personal attention as in-person instruction.

Since 2020, I’ve refined and streamlined the online format so sessions are efficient, interactive, and highly focused. You’ll play throughout the lesson, receive immediate feedback, and work from the same professionally designed materials I use with all of my students.

When we work together online, you demonstrate your material solo while I guide, listen carefully, and provide detailed correction and direction. The result is clear accountability, steady improvement, and the same structured path forward no matter where you live.

What to Expect in the First Three Months

For beginners, the first three months typically include:

• Moving confidently around the fretboard
• Playing melodies and chords
• Learning multiple real songs
• Building finger strength and coordination
• Understanding basic musical concepts

Adult beginners gain clarity and direction. Intermediate players begin filling in missing fundamentals and breaking through plateaus. Parents see steady progress and growing confidence.

Every week includes specific practice direction so you know exactly what to work on.

Long-Term Results

I don’t just show students what to play. I teach them how to learn.

Many of my students stay for years and develop the ability to interpret and learn nearly anything they want. My goal is for students to become independent musicians, capable of exploring music long after lessons end.

I’m not simply a guitarist who teaches on the side. Teaching is a craft I’ve refined for decades. I care deeply about methodology, efficiency, and helping students build something real.
